In addition, conflict-laden brokers providing investment banking and proprietary trading services have been re-regulated. Independent research was encouraged to “balance” their views. Increasingly, research coverage has concentrated on fewer larger companies. Fragmented coverage by countless providers has created an inefficient and bifurcated research supply straining budget resources of investors. The effect of these trends has been to limit the depth, breadth and independence of information available on many public companies, despite technology that has created broader access to information via more efficient delivery platforms.

“Boots on the ground” research is an important and relevant service needed for investors. Public information is created by the motivation and hard work to gain advantage.
